Gabriel Orozco
is a Mexican conceptual artist. He studied at the Academia de San
Carlos in Mexico City and went afterwards for Madrid to continue his
studies at the Circulo de Bellas Artes. Today he lives with his family
in Paris, New York and Mexico City as an artist. One
of his works exhibited in the Kunsthaus Bregenz is the legendary
Citroën DS, which helped him to get into the higher league as he was
readopted as good old readymade in 1993. He disemboweled and bisected
the still fully functional car and made it a single-seater. With this
Gabriel Orozco fosters the change of techniques, the reinterpretation of
the classic modernism, the series of contrasts, the entertaining tone –
which he revives with a possibly nostalgic artistry.
