French legend Eric Cantona helped raised over £100,000 for a homeless charity after donating a Rolls Royce to be daubed in graffiti. The former Manchester United player handed the 1984 Rolls Royce Corniche II to New York-based graffiti artist JonOne, who sprayed the bodywork with colourful paint. A lively bidding war broke out at the auction in Paris on Tuesday and the convertible made about £105,000 - more than twice the estimate. 

El legendario futbolista Eric Cantona ha donado una cantidad superior a 100.000 Libras para los sin techo despues de haber subastado su Rolls Royce Corniche II. El artista JonOne se encargo de customizar el coche con sus sprays y pinturas de colores. Una subasta en Paris logro recaudar cerca de 105.000 Libras, el doble de lo estimado.

Lot 81 de la vente Art Urbain contemporain d'Artcurial, la Rolls Royce d'Éric Cantona ne dépareille pas. Dans cette première partie du catalogue consacrée au graffiti, la berline bleue métallisée est entièrement taggée. Voilà pourquoi elle est mise aux enchères dans ce cadre là, et non celui du salon Rétro mobile au Grand Palais, comme annoncé dans le Grand Journal de Canal + le 22 novembre dernier, où Bonhams (le 7 février) et Artcurial (le 8 février) disperseront des autos et motos d'exception.

C'est durant l'émission-phare de la chaîne cryptée, présentée par Michel Denisot, que «Canto» comme on appelle encore l'ancien joueur de l'OM, à Marseille, a annoncé qu'il offrait sa voiture à la fondation Abbé Pierre, non pas telle quelle, mais en la faisant customiser, relooker en direct sur le plateau par l'artiste de rue JonOne, puis en la soumettant aux enchères (mise à prix 20.000 euros, sans frais en sus du prix marteau) au profit de la célèbre Fondation contre les sans-abris et mal-logés.
